A bill checker for Australian households
Most household bills drift upward quietly. An introductory discount ends, a plan rolls onto a higher rate, a health fund lifts its premium on 1 April, and nobody writes to tell you that the same cover or the same power costs less somewhere else.
Compound’s bill checker answers one question: for exactly what you have now, what does the rest of the market charge? Upload the bill and Compound reads it, then prices the same setup across every plan it can compare like for like, and shows who is cheaper and by how much a year. Providers are named, never linked, and nobody pays Compound to be on the list.
Upload the bill, that’s all
A PDF or a photo of an electricity, gas, health insurance, NBN or mobile bill. It is read once and the file is deleted: only the figures and your postcode are kept.
Priced on your setup, not an average
Electricity and gas are priced for your actual usage over your bill’s actual days, on the same meter setup: flat rate, time of use or controlled load. GST is added back, and only guaranteed discounts count.
Official data, dated
Energy plans come from the plans retailers publish through the Consumer Data Right. Hospital cover comes from the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman’s product data. Every comparison shows its source and the date prices were current.
Health cover, like for like
Only policies with the same hospital cover, in your state, for the same people, with an excess no higher than yours, compared before the rebate on both sides.
NBN and mobile, service by service
Each internet and mobile service on the bill is compared on its own, against the plans published by the providers Compound reads each month. The providers included are listed.
Named, never linked
No referral fees, no commissions and no paid placement. You see the name and the price, and you go to the provider yourself if you want to.
Your home loan rate too
Beside the bills, your loan’s rate is checked against the rates lenders publish for the same kind of loan, with what the difference comes to a year on your balance.
Common questions
How is this different from a comparison website?
Most commercial comparison sites are paid by the providers they list, and many do not cover every provider. Compound is paid by its members only: there are no referral fees, commissions or sponsored results, providers are named without links, and each comparison lists exactly which retailers or funds it includes.
Which bills can it compare?
Electricity, gas, private hospital cover (including the hospital part of a combined policy), NBN and mobile. Home, contents and car insurance, water and council rates are not compared: there is no public price data for insurance quotes, and water and rates have a single supplier.
Does it switch me to a cheaper plan?
No. Compound shows the price facts: your cost a year, the lower-priced equivalents by name, and the difference. What you do with that is up to you, and you deal with the provider directly.
Does it cover the whole market?
For electricity and gas it prices every generally available plan published through the Consumer Data Right that can be priced like for like with your bill; plans it cannot price fairly, such as demand tariffs, are left out and counted. Health cover uses every open product in the Ombudsman’s data, excluding corporate and restricted-fund policies. NBN and mobile cover the providers Compound reads, which are listed on each comparison.
Is my bill stored?
The file is read once and deleted. Compound keeps the figures it needs to compare, your postcode and your state, and never your name, address, account, meter or policy number.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is general information about prices, not advice or a recommendation. Compound does not hold an AFSL.
